Sample Types and Inventory Summary

The Research Sample Repository contains approximately 2.8 million sample aliquots from more than 57,000 first allogeneic related and unrelated transplant recipient/donor (or cord blood) pairs with complete, validated clinical outcome data from the CIBMTR Observational Database. The majority of the paired samples have complete high-resolution data available for HLA-A, B, C, DRB1/3/4/5, DQ and DP loci.

Sample Types

Samples in the Research Sample Repository are stored as:

  • Whole blood
  • Cryopreserved whole blood
  • Plasma
  • Blood spotted on filter paper
  • Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) viable and non-viable
  • B-Lymphoblastoid cell lines (B-LCL) viable and non-viable
  • Granulocytes
  • Serum
  • DNA
  • Whole genome amplified DNA

Available sample types vary by sample source and year of collection. Sample sources include: adult and pediatric related/unrelated donors, cord blood and transplant recipients. Samples from recipients are drawn before the patient’s conditioning regimen begins. Prior to January 1, 2000, 100-day post-transplant samples were also drawn.
